North Middlesex University Hospital reports A&E problems in December

PERFORMANCE: An increase in emergency cases delivered by ambulance is thought to be one of the reasons for NMUH missing the A&E target for December.

A presentation made by chief executive Clare Panniker to NHS London said althought the number of ambulance attendances was broadly the same as last year an audit shows an increase of more than 15 per cent in blue-light urgen attendances.

Her report said there was there were “Implications for resus capacity, waiting times in the department”, noting “Time of arrival has also shifted, with an increase in peak attendances in the evening.”

  • Norovirus also closed wards at Whipps Cross and other neighbouring hospitals. North Middlesex had to absorb capacity that would normally go elsewhere.
    But, hey ho, a bad news story is worth printing!
