The figure is substantially more than the cost improvement plan saving target of £6.2m for 2011-12 – which the trust expects to fall short of by £500,000.

Board papers say: “The slippage in the delivery of the plan is due to the under delivery of schemes”, citing a planned saving of £300,000 on medical agency costs and the delayed implementation of an electronic staff rostering project.

The papers say: “Next year’s quality innovation, productivity and prevention target of £10m is challenging.

“The process of identifying next year’s CIP has begun but a significant amount of work remains.”
