Many in the public healthcare sector still struggle to accept that management is a profession and to acknowledge the value that skilled and experienced management professionals can bring. One of the criticisms of the CCGs is their leaders' lack of management knowledge and skills. Perhaps now is the time for those wishing to be future organisational leaders to ensure they have the necessary skills to deliver sustainable performance. I am sure that Westminster, and other business schools, would be very happy to develop appropriate training programmes. Perhaps those unwilling to commit to this level of training should reconsider their suitability for the role?
