Even as a conservative voter for many years I actually thought that Andy Burnham was a pretty good Health Secretary but I do believe he has taken leave of his senses on this one!!!
GP's might be playing the system and probably have been for years - ever since the Labour administration doubled their pay and halved their hours - genius that one!!! - but perhaps we should apply the "google logic" here - "they didn't make the rules"
GP's and other clinicians are actually the best people to make decisions on the right types of healthcare services to commission - they spend ten years learning how to make people better so they ought to be- I'm not sure that elected members undergo even a tenth of that period learning how to be a representative of their electorate - and most of them have other day jobs aswell - so why on earth would you hand over control of your healthcare system to untrained, unqualified people like that - if you break your leg you go to a hospital you don't call your local councillor!!!
We're two months into the new system and we are already giving up on it ???? just for once politicians should put aside their own personal agendas and put us the electorate first - thats why we put you there - "politicians" also spans a very broad range of people and professions so just because they don't sit in Westminster it doesn't absolve them of responsibility - offering up problems instead of solutions is getting irksome now
