The appointment of Simon Stevens as NHS England chief executive was greeted with near-ubiquitous ecstasy in health policy world.

However the mainstream media was more circumspect, perhaps unsure as to whether to paint him as modernising visionary or private sector villain.

Thank goodness then for Top News, the international English language service, who knew exactly what to do with the announcement.

They proclaimed: “Sir David Nicholson to be appointed as chief executive of NHS England”.

The story went on: “Simon Stevens, UnitedHealth Group’s executive vice-president and president of its Global Health division, is to be substituted by Sir David Nicholson as chief executive of NHS England.”

Top News’s strapline is “News you can use”. Sadly, the fact that it is an online-only operation and therefore doesn’t have a print edition rules out the use that springs most readily to mind.
