FINANCE: Cambridge University Hospitals Foundation Trust is heading for a £2.2m deficit this year - despite delivering more than £40m in cost improvements.

The trust’s board of governors has been told that the year to date deficit was £3m at the end of January and the likely outturn is in the range of a £1m to £4m deficit.

If the trust returns a £2.2m deficit it will be less than a quarter of the £10m it originally anticipated.

But it is also planning a £43m cost improvements target for the coming year.
