Dr Dilys Jones, a former senior medical officer at the Department of Health ('Night blindness', 25 October), spends a couple of hours one night in an accident and emergency unit and writes an article to tell us how awful things were and that she found that the staff were not only unhappy with such circumstances but that they have a few ideas of how matters might be improved.

This is an 'eye-opener' only to that tiny section of the population which is not secreted in Richmond House and/or who use private medicine. Could this be one of the reasons why the NHS is such a shambles?
