The Care Services Improvement Partnership has produced guidance to clarify issues surrounding equal access to services for older people with mental health needs

Everybody’s Businessstates that services should respond on the basis of need, not age, and ensure that older people with mental health needs are not discriminated against.

Some localities have interpreted this as meaning that old age mental health services are no longer desirable and that people of all ages should have their needs met in the same service. We have therefore produced a guidance note to clarify policy and help local health and social care communities plan their services better.
