It's not often that journalism annoys me enough to respond, but the final paragraph of Peter Mitchell's piece (comment, IT Update, 24 June) did so.
The Internet rather than NHSnet is reasonable, but HTML rather than Word for documents? Word is the industry leader, something Mr Mitchell urges us to adopt. HTML is not. The main offence is in advising us not to develop our own anything. Those of us who have devoted our careers to development in the NHS, often at personal cost, are now told we have wasted our time and our employer's money.
If we took his advice fully, we'd not bother producing or reading home-grown journals but subscribe only to US ones.
