The NHS complaints procedure is not only failing patients but also members of staff and healthcare organisations (news, page 10, 30 September).

It is two years since I acted as an external assessor for an independent review panel at Haringey trust. My employing trust has yet to be reimbursed for the time I spent on this.

I contacted my professional body, the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists, but it had not been approached by the Department of Health regarding the NHS complaints procedure. Has podiatry so few complaints?
