As a member of the public, I frequently read that the NHS is here to serve and is keen to become more patient centred.

This being the case, I was taken aback to read that, according to Rowan Harwood (letters, 17 October), 'it is consultants who will deliver NHS modernisation, and that is not going to happen if they remain as angry as they are now'.

What an arrogant reply that is.

The consultant needs to be reminded that while his role is important, he is only one part of a large team that ensures NHS modernisation. Indeed, it seems that he also needs reminding that he is ultimately accountable to the public, without whom he would have no employment.
