The plans produced by Cornwall and Isles of Scilly health authority to achieve revenue savings, mainly through the closure of four community hospitals, did not include the transfer of additional elective surgery to St Michael's

Hospital (News, page 8, 20 August).

It was proposed to transfer services from one community hospital with a view to improved rehabilitation for patients who would have used community hospitals, building on the rehabilitation services that are already provided by St Michael's.

No plans were discussed for St Michael's to work exclusively for the NHS, although historically, 98 per cent of the elective surgery it undertakes is for NHS patients.
