The Association of Community Health Councils for England and Wales has confirmed it is not going to proceed with a judicial review of the government's decision to abolish CHCs, following health secretary Alan Milburn's refusal to fund one. The association had received a QC's opinion suggesting it had 'good grounds' for a review. But ACHCEW director Donna Covey said it had no desire to put a 'further burden on the public purse' when Mr Milburn had made it clear that 'not only would he not fund a review, but that he would resist it at every step'. She said ACHCEW was still attempting 'meaningful consultation' with the Department of Health.
