Speaking as a nurse and a senior manager - including six years as complaints manager - I was enraged by Dea Birkett's article in which she criticised some clinicians for being poor communicators (opinion, page 17, 17 March).
In Ms Birkett's world, Doctors can't win, however well-intentioned they may be.
Can she not accept the reality that, while doctors have to be professional, they represent a cross-section of the population's personality types in the same way patients do.
Let's hope for the sake of medical staff who read HSJ that she turns in a more intelligent effort next time.
