Doctors should continue to form the majority of the General Medical Council, on the grounds that they are best placed to judge the actions of other doctors, according to the overwhelming majority of GPs.Nearly 99 per cent of them questioned in a survey by BMA News Review said the GMC should keep its medical majority.More than 60 per cent also said that moves to change the standard of proof in fitness to practise cases from the criminal standard of 'beyond reasonable doubt'to the civil standard of 'on the balance of probability'should be resisted.
