The government says enhanced holiday rates would be worth£165 a year for a full-time nurse, and more for nurses working mainly unsocial hours.

For example, nurses at the top of the D, E and F grades who work weekday night shifts for half their contracted hours could earn an extra£180,£205 and£240 a year respectively - equal to a 1.15 per cent increase in basic pay.
