A third of people evicted by local authorities suffer from mental illness, according to a report by charity Crisis.

Pressure Points calls for community mental health teams, social landlords and agencies providing specialised support to be 'more assertive' in identifying and dealing with problems ahead of eviction threats.

The report backs the principles of assertive outreach as well as liaison between housing, social services, health authorities and police to protect property while clients are in hospital, handle benefits and prevent unnecessary arrests.
