The Retained Organs Commission, set up to manage the return to families of organs retained by trusts, has published its first annual report. It chronicles the commission's work to provide accurate information for families, and to consult public and professional groups on issues relating to organ retention. It also shows that a helpline for families has taken 4,000 calls. The government announced last week that the lifespan of the commission is to be extended by a year, to 31 March 2004.An independent review will identify the responsibilities the commission should take on in its additional year.
