We need to move away from the concept of extra beds and premises for intermediate care. Providing quality, community-based rehabilitation services, together with integrated care pathways, is more important.

We have a well-established intermediate care service, and all our patients receive short-term rehabilitative care in their own homes.

It may of course be a different picture in non-metropolitan areas, but reducing the number of transfers between locations must be a good thing.
