The East London Communities Organisation has claimed an 'important step forward' in securing better services at Newham General Hospital. Following a meeting to launch a report on the state of the hospital, it said managers had promised changes to the way food was heated and serviced in the hospital, with three new chefs taken on and catering staff to serve it on each ward by May next year. It also said it had been promised renovations in the entrance area, new signs and an end to mixed-sex wards. TELCO spokesman Reverend Angus Ritchie admitted that there had been tension between the trust and the group, but said it had been 'creative tension'.
