The recently televised interview between prime minister and members of the health community in London, chaired by Jeremy Paxman (news, pages 4-5; comment, 9 March), must surely have been a watershed moment for anyone who doubted that the government is more interested in soundbites than being honest over funding and taking positive action.
It is not good enough to go on repeating, 'Oh but we are putting more money in, ' when we are not anywhere the European average, or to answer question after question with, 'I'll look into that. It should not be happening.'
Health needs to be treated as a crucial issue, in honest and straightforward debate without the constant spin of Millbank.
