The Department of Health has published a strategy on hepatitis C in England. It proposes the development of managed clinical networks and co-ordinated pathways of patient care, with accessible specialist treatment centres across the country. As a first step, it calls for a scoping study to identify where such centres are operating and identify good practice. The strategy also proposes health promotion campaigns for the general public, harm-minimisation information for injecting drug users and more information in prisons - where there is a high incidence of the virus. The strategy will form part of an action plan developed as part of the strategy for combating infectious diseases, Getting Ahead of the Curve. The DoH has also published further guidance for healthcare workers infected with the virus.
