Raymond Prud'homme is the NHS Modernisation Agency Leadership Centre programme manager, an interim assignment through Veredus Executive Resourcing.

I think you have to be a certain kind of person to really enjoy being an interim manager. You have to be very results and action-oriented.You are brought in to do a specific job, you do it and then you leave.

Ifyou work as an interim you must be comfortable with yourself and where you are career-wise. It is about using your skill set and repeating the same level of expertise in different environments. If you want status and a big office, forget it.

The private sector is still ahead of the NHS in its understanding of how to get the best out of interims as in my experience, private sector clients are more focused with clearer targets and expectations. Still, I am sure this will change as more people in the NHS use and become interim managers.
