A new protease inhibitor is offering fresh hope to children with AIDS. Paediatricians at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children trust have been using the protease inhibitor, nelfinavir, for six months to treat 20 HIV-infected children. Consultant paediatrician Diana Gibb said: 'Most children have tolerated this drug well. This is particularly important for young children as other protease inhibitors are hard to swallow or have a bitter taste.'
