The government is not on track to meet its targets for reducing inequalities at birth by 2010.
The infant mortality rate has reduced for the second two-year period, but not by enough to meet the target.
The inequality gap between male and female life expectancy at birth has also increased since the 2001 baseline. However, the inequality gap in cancer mortality has decreased and the minimum requirement for the 2010 cancer mortality target has already been met.
