I was surprised to see no mention in your feature on clinical governance ('PA for the course', page 26, 11 March) of the importance of the library and information service in the hospital.
I have worked for many years in my local hospital library, and have made it my business to see that relevant information on clinical effectiveness and the National Institute for Clinical Excellence is circulated to the appropriate departments each day. I know the sort of information the consultants want and their special expertise. I try to do this by 10am
In North Thames region, courses are held on clinical governance, Cochrane databases and Internet skills.
There never has been a problem in our hospital with provision of information. We always get appreciative comments from medical staff.
