I read with interest the Data Briefing on hip replacements and patients' length of stay in hospital (page 22, 15 July).
At North Devon District Hospital our average length of stay is 4.5 days, with 96.4 per cent of people going directly home, as audited June 2003. This followed a change of post-operative practice from the whole multidisciplinary team.
We cannot have the only orthopaedic unit in the country with results such as this. I would be interested to hear if other units have similar outcomes.
