Temporary changes to immigration rules will reduce the potential pool of migrants applying to UK postgraduate medical training from 5,000 to 3,000 in 2009, the Department of Health has said.

But around 10,000 migrants will still be able to apply, meaning that 700-1,100 UK doctors will be unable to secure a training place. The DH has launched a consultation to further restrict access to non-EU migrants.
