My back is broad enough to accept fair criticism, but I was surprised a magazine of your excellent reputation should publish misrepresentations of people's views as Monitor (page 84, 22 June) did mine.

In my paper I made it abundantly clear that I believed people should keep fit and mobile. How could I believe otherwise? My argument is with authoritarian and unbendingly prescriptive advice on exercise, and again I made this very clear in my paper - a vital qualification which Monitor chose to omit.
