Accident and emergency nurse (cardiology) Jim Buenaventura is a member of the Territorial Army with 256 Field Hospital

'After joining three years ago, I had military training like any other soldier. The TA teaches you to be a soldier first and foremost, but then you also have your professional expertise.

'I have not been mobilised yet, but it is just a matter of time. In the Gulf War, the TA supplied a great part of the medical personnel.

'Being a TA soldier requires a lot of time management and you have to be good at juggling things. I have training every Tuesday and once a month I have weekend exercises. You hone your clinical skills because you can take part in study days and courses.

'You commit 29 days a year, which is not a lot. There is also a two-week training every year.
