Julia Lee is service development manager for East Surrey primary care trust and a pilates teacher.
'I work three days a week for the primary care trust and teach about five pilates classes a week and that helps to counteract stress. For both, you need strong interpersonal skills and standing in front of a class can be good preparation for presentations.
'In the NHS there is a culture of long hours, coupled with snatched meals, little or no exercise, and poor sleep.Managers need to encourage their staff to exercise and take breaks away from their desk.
You can't expect them to have balance in their lives if you do not demonstrate It is possible.
'I enjoy both roles but I still want to do other things. It is unhealthy to want to spend over 40 hours a week doing one thing.
Something usually gives if you push yourself too hard.'
