A national uniform and dress code that will see the end of the white coat is being introduced for all NHS staff in Scotland.

Clinical staff will wear tunics in one of four shades of blue with navy trousers. Support, domestic and catering staff will wear tunics in one of two shades of green with navy trousers. Staff who do not currently wear a uniform will not be required to do so.

Staff will be required not to wear their uniforms outside of work.
The dress code will be applied to all staff regardless of whether they wear uniform.

All staff are to wear short sleeved shirts or blouses, not to wear ties or white coats when providing patient care and not to carry pens or scissors in outside back pockets. Hair should be tied off the collar and nails should be short and clean.
