New guidance on hospital car parking and the introduction of a maximum charge must be implemented without delay, according to Scottish health and well-being secretary Nicola Sturgeon.

The Scottish government's review group on hospital parking recommended a maximum charge of£3 per day in December 2007.

The guidance says health boards must operate a presumption against charging and where charges are used, all reasonable steps must be taken to ensure they are not excessive for people working at or visiting a hospital.
