The Commons public accounts committee has concluded that the NHS Executive 'learned lessons' from its 1992 information technology strategy - even though this was never evaluated.
In a report following a hearing on a National Audit Office investigation that raised concerns about mistakes being repeated, the committee also says the lessons learned influenced the Executive's 1998 IT strategy and its implementation. But it warns that 'these are early days' and says that 'in light of past IT failures in the NHS, the importance of this strategy and the cost - in excess of£1bn - we plan to examine progress in about two years' time'.
