York University's Professor Alan Maynard has warned of a risk that the national service framework for older people 'will be nothing more than any other public declaration of intent: an empty policy wheeze'.

Citing the importance of improving standards of care and providing co-ordinated and efficient services for older people, Professor Maynard pointed out that the the frameworks have not been costed and 'will require determined management if rhetoric is to be translated into practice'.His comments coincide with publication of the latest issue of the university's Health Policy Matters on the framework's targets and standards.
