Four priority areas - and four national targets
Heart disease and stroke - to reduce by at least one-third the death rate from heart disease and stroke in people under 65 years by 2010.
Accidents - to reduce by one-fifth the rate of occurrence of major accidents to children and adults by 2010.
Cancer - to reduce by at least one-fifth the death rate from all cancers among people under 65 by 2010.
Poor mental health - to reduce by one-sixth the death rate from suicide and undetermined injury by 2010 (see graphs).
