A working group on the care of acutely ill children being treated in district general hospitals has said emergency paediatric surgical care does not have to be available on every site. It suggests that comprehensive services could be provided by concentrating services, or by networking with other hospitals. The recommendation is part of 40 made by the working group, which includes the royal colleges of paediatrics and child health, anaesthetists, nursing and surgeons.
