As a supporter of plain language, I was pleased to read your article about health literacy (Ideas, pages 16-17, 6 May).

But how ironic that the original study, Health Literacy: a prescription to end confusion is written at the 19th US grade level. That is a British reading age of 24, and akin to an insurance policy! The content is great - but will anyone read it?
