Primary care trusts should be setting up their headquarters within local communities rather than near acute services, according to John Ashton, director of public health at North West region.'Under the Conservatives, we saw a lot of health authorities and trusts have their headquarters on business parks, 'he said.'It was symbolic, suggesting where the new priorities were. What concerns me is that many PCTs seem to be basing themselves near hospitals.Primary care is about the local community, and there is no reason why they [PCTs] should be at this distance when they should be working with local government.'
