While not wishing to detract from the main thrust of the article on overseas care ('Shape up or ship out', 20 July), I do want to correct a couple of points relating to the patient cited as an example at the head of the article.
Ron Judd was referred to outpatients at Scunthorpe General Hospital with eye problems in April 1999. He was offered three appointments but cancelled each of them, and was finally seen in outpatients in April 2000. He was diagnosed in need of a cataract operation at the time, and our inpatient waiting time is around seven months. This process is somewhat shorter than that described in the article.
