The Royal College of Nursing says it is concerned that the UK Central Council for Nursing, Midwifery and Health Visiting may be acting in breach of the European Convention on Human Rights - which guarantees a right to a fair trial - because it acts as judge, jury and prosecutor in cases of alleged professional misconduct. Another grey area is whether the rights of appeal are adequate. The RCN says it wants to work co-operatively with the UKCC, even if the only option is to take the issue to Europe as a test.
