Your news focus about refugee doctors (8 November, pages 1213) was most interesting. But the information about Redbridge and Waltham Forest health authority's project is three years out of date and doesn't quite give the full picture of our successes. I thought you might be interested in how well we are doing.
We currently have 85 doctors in our scheme. Since July 2000, 36 have passed their IELTS, 17 have successfully taken their PLAB I and 12 have passed PLAB II. A further 11 have completed all their exams and are now working.
Our refugee doctors have a huge wealth of language and cultural skills. They will make a great contribution to the delivery of the NHS plan.
