A leaked report suggests that initial data transfers from GP systems to Connecting for Health's local service providers in the North East and Eastern clusters are taking twice as long and costing£5,000 a practice, against£2,500 in London. Health IT website E-Health Insider says the report warns this would mean the transfer of records to the new system would take far longer that the five-year target.

An NHS Connecting for Health statement said: 'Experience in early adopter sites has shown this is a challenging activity. We commissioned a report precisely because of the importance of the issue.' It said the leaked version was a draft containing inaccuracies, but added, 'we have shared the information with our suppliers and are already addressing the thrust of the recommendations'.
