A Patients Association survey of strategic health authority chief executives reveals concerns among half of them that they are not doing enough to assess hospital acquired-infection data from the local trusts The survey of all 28 SHA chief executives, which was completed by 12 of them (40 per cent), found that it was also 'unclear'on the extent to which SHAs are being consulted by the Department of Health on the future of hospital sterile service departments.Simon Williams, director of policy at the association, said:

'We are concerned that NHS reorganisation seems to have caused confusion about whether the new SHAs should be monitoring infection control and decontamination issues.'
