Age Concern has called for the government to include a clause in the Health Bill outlawing age discrimination in the NHS. This follows a Gallup poll of 1,597 adults which found that 3 per cent of those aged over 50 and 5 per cent of those aged over 65 had been refused NHS treatment. The charity is planning to collect a dossier of evidence of ageism to press the government on its pre-election pledge to audit health service practices that discriminate against older people.
