The NHS Alliance has called for the GP contract negotiations, presently under discussion, to produce one national contract for GPs to bring together the current general medical services and personal medical services contracts. The NHS Alliance is part of the broader reference group advising the NHS Confederation, which is negotiating a new GP contract with the British Medical Association's GP committee. It has called for a national core contract setting out minimum standards, within which there should be primary care trust-based local contracts.Within these there would then be practice-level agreements between the PCT and individual practices.
