Judith Mackay, chair of Northern Birmingham Mental Health trust, signs a pledge in support of a Birmingham plan for a city-wide anti-smoking campaign. The Helping Birmingham Stop Smoking campaign was launched by Birmingham health authority chair Bryan Stoten and Birmingham city council leader Albert Bore. Mr Stoten also gave a 'rapturous welcome' to the decision of a jury in Miami last week that the American tobacco industry was guilty of producing a defective product that caused smoking illnesses. Mr Stoten said the UK industry should 'come clean' and admit 'tobacco products are responsible for the deaths of millions of people across the world each year'.
