I write to applaud Benet Middleton's recent article (Too tight a spotlight, page 16, 12 August), which has highlighted the needs of chronic disease management in a thoughtful and constructive way.
The government's new emphasis on chronic disease management is a welcome acknowledgement that the quality of people's lives matter to them as much as their length.
The Skin Care Campaign is encouraged by new government recognition that skin diseases are widespread and can affect the quality of people's lives. The Chief Medical Officer Professor Sir Liam Donaldson stressed that 'there should be a thread of dermatology running through all chronic disease management'.
Recent achievements in diabetes provide a sound model on which to base the treatment and self-management of many skin diseases.
