Junior health minister Gisela Stuart has approved West Surrey health authority's plans for St Peter's Hospital, where trauma and general emergency services will now be centralised, and Ashford Hospital, which will be developed as an urgent treatment centre.Ms Stuart said she had been faced with a 'difficult decision' but the 'vast majority' of people treated at Ashford would continue to be treated there.The HA has been facing severe financial difficulties, highlighted by local MP Virginia Bottomley.The changes will run alongside 'major redevelopment' ofWest Middlesex Hospital.
