The Faculty of Public Health and the Association of Public Health Directors have welcomed the restriction of tobacco sales to those over 18.

President of the APHD Tim Crayford said: 'Rising thelegal minimumage of sale of tobaccobrings this nicely into line with alcohol. We back these proposals wholeheartedly.'

The age limit was increased from 16 to 18 on Monday as part of the government's attempts to cut smoking rates.
